ECONOMIC RESOURCES AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROFILE

Economic Resources and Community Development is a department unit within the First NationWithin this department are the following programs:

·         Natural Resources Unit

·         Lands and Estates

·         Capacity Development Office

·         Utility Commission Office

·         Employment and Training (Technology Centre)

·         Job Development Office

·         Membership

·         Housing Development Office

 

Funding is supportive from:  Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) which supports Aboriginal peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) and Northerners in their efforts to:

·         improve their social well–being and economic prosperity;

·         develop healthier, more sustainable communities; and

·         participate more fully in Canada's political, social and economic development — to the benefit of all Canadians.

·         June 29, 2009, Minister Strahl announced a new “Federal Framework for Aboriginal Economic Development” that will focus the federal government's actions – from programs to legislation to partnerships – to increase the participation of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in the Canadian economy and improve economic actions for Aboriginal peoples in all parts of Canada.

·         The Framework will maximize federal investments by: strengthening Aboriginal entrepreneurship; enhancing the value of Aboriginal assets; forging new and effective partnerships to maximize economic development opportunities; developing Aboriginal human capital; and better focusing the role of the Federal Government.
