Primary Numeracy Teacher

Position: PRIMARY NUMERACY TEACHER
Starting Wage: $29.73 – $37.94 (Pending Qualifications)
Location: 48 Syrette Lake Road, Garden River
Duration: Full-Time

OVERVIEW
The Primary Numeracy Teacher/Specialist is responsible for the numeracy program at the primary level. The purpose of this position is to
ensure that our early primary students are introduced to a variety of numeracy opportunities that promotes early numeracy strategies to foster
a love for mathematics, problem solving and word problems. While working within the framework of the primary math curriculum, the teacher
also works within the land-based framework that recognizes the connection and relationship of our values to the land, our language, culture,
community connectedness and practices.

DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Search, order, plan and organize the numeracy program for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year and each year afterwards.
Continually evaluate and enhance the mathematics program to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students
• Develop and introduce the age-appropriate, diverse numeracy curriculum that reflects the culture, language and ways of knowing and
doing of the Anishinaabek in our community
• Perform student administration functions including daily attendance and addressing any student and/or parental concerns
• Supporting and networking with Early Years Workers who will be assisting in the planning and implementation of developmentally
appropriate activities and experiences for our students
• Maintaining, promoting and continuously evaluating the high standards and expectations for all students and staff
• Manifesting superior personal integrity, an awareness, and an adherence to high standards of ethical behaviour
• Able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport
• Set realistic, specific goals and objectives; and to prioritize objectives and monitor related activity in support of set goals and objectives
• Compliance with organizational values and statement of confidentiality
• Maintenance of knowledge and compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and all
workplace health and safety policies, programs, and practices
• Reporting immediately any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or any workplace hazard, the absence or defect of
any protective device of which the employee is aware which may endanger self or others, including employees and clients, to the
immediate supervisor, any other manager, or the Executive Director/Senior Administrator, as appropriate.
• Complete all required Health and Safety training, maintaining all current certificate requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) preferred; Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) an asset;
• Primary Specialist preferred
• Primary Numeracy Specialist preferred
• Ability to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations;
• Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment;
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
• Ability to be consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude;
• Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations;
• Stamina, sensitivity and strong negotiation and advocacy skills;
• Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology;
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
• Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written;
• Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook);
• Ability to report for work as scheduled;
• Must undergo a criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense).
