Position: Summer / Winter Maintenance
Salary Range: $20.31 – $25.92 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: 5 Bay Garage / Patrol Yard
Report to: Highway Maintenance Coordinator

Position Summary
Summer/Winter Maintenance is responsible for maintaining Highway 17 and Highway 17B. Summer/Winter Maintenance
functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden
River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Duties
• Highway refuse and rubbish removal
• Ability to work in inclement weather
• Required physical demands of exertion and lifting occasionally, load/unload, move construction materials around worksite
• Operate equipment, such as: skid steer, loader, tractor, etc. when needed
• Adapting to a variety of tasks which could include cleaning, sweeping, sign repair, pothole repair, and/or grass cutting
• Driving, operating, performing safety checks and loading the sander/plow in all types of weather conditions including extreme
conditions, on four main routes
• Cleaning and maintaining shop, equipment and trucks
• Completing computer data forms for Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
o Displaying usage of salt, sand, and pre-wet materials
o Recording start/stop and turnaround times
o Recording circle checks
• Performing general maintenance duties including cleaning GRFN vehicles, building maintenance, etc.
• Performing other duties as may be required or assigned

Qualifications
• Highschool Diploma and/or G.E.D preferred;
• Require “DZ” License and clear drivers abstract to operate Plow and Sander Trucks;
• Required one-year related experience including: knowledge of the operations and maintenance of heavy equipment,
sanding, and snow removal;
• Ability to be available on a 12 hour on-call basis, seven (7) days a week and respond to trucks within 30 minutes of being
called (Winter Maintenance);
• Completion of Book 7 Training if successful candidate;
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
• Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written;
• Ability to report for work as scheduled;
• Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant’s Expense)
